Living in Cancun is relatively cheap, mostly compared with the United States, Canada and Europe. You can get a nice 3 bedroom apartment with a pool in a great area in the middle of town, within walking distance of everything, for less than $800 USD a month (unlike the US, in Cancun it is customary to only give a 1 month deposit) and with all the problems in the world economy, cost of housing has gone down about 15%. Food and drinks are cheap, with the price of meat and poultry being about half of what it is in the USA. Fruits and vegetables are aplenty and fairly priced, and if you want to really cut your veggie costs in half, just drive half an hour outside of Cancun and purchase directly from the growers. Price of a new car is exactly the same here as in the United States and over 1/3 cheaper than in Europe. Personal services like hair dressing, manicure, pedicure and massages are so cheap that it is ridiculous, even at Cancun's most exclusive salons: a woman's hair cut plus blowdrying and hair setting is about $26 USD. Medical services are for the most part about 20% of what they would cost in other parts of the world and quality is second to none.
So those of our readers thinking of relocating to Cancun and concerned about costs, don't be! Living in Cancun is definitely cheaper than in most first world countries, and you'll notice your dollars and euros going a long way.
